Smarties Cake

Having a one year old daughter means that I have attended a lot of first birthday parties recently.

There has been one consistent thing between all the parties, and that is the delicious cake!

This birthday cake was no exception and tasted as amazing as it looked.

Using the party planning checklist will ensure you prepare your food and drinks for a party and it will also ensure that you don’t forget to include the cake!!

This cake was easily decorated yet looked amazing.  The bonus is that it can also be made for a girl or a boy.

If you are having a particular colour for your party theme, you could decorate with only one colour, to match that theme.  Step 3 of the party planning checklist will help you decide on a theme for your party.

The great thing about smarties is that there is a colour to suit every kids favourite.

Or perhaps you could create a picture on the cake using the smarties, instead of using one particular colour!

However you decide to decorate with the smarties, I don’t think you would find too many kids disappointed with a birthday cake looking like this……and even the big kids would be impressed!

Would you like to try out this recipe?

Ingredients you will need:

1 1/2 cups self raising flour

 3/4 cup of sugar

4 tablespoons and 125 grams of butter.

 2 tablespoons cocoa

 1 cup of water

 2 eggs

 1/4 tablespoon Bi-Carb Soda

1 1/2 cups of Icing Sugar

 2 tablespoons of Milk

 Pack of Smarties

How to make this cake:

1. Put the water, sugar, 4 tablespoons of butter and cocoa into a saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer for 2 minutes and then let cool.

2. Add the self raising flour and beat on slow with beaters.

3. Add the eggs and bi-carb soda.

4. Grease and line a rectangular baking tin with baking paper. Pour in the cake mix and cook for 20 mins on 180 degrees.   Test with a skewer and cook until it comes out clean.

5. You will need to bake 2 rectangular cakes in order to make the number one.

6. Using a bread knife, cut the raised top off each cake so the cake is flat.

7. Leave one cake whole and cut the other cake to make the base of the one and the triangular piece at the top. Assemble your “one.”

8. Beat the butter until it goes white, then add the icing sugar and milk.

9. Add your favourite food colouring.

10. Cover the entire cake with frosting, then decorate using a family size packet of Smarties.

Enjoy your Smarties Cake.
